Carolina Arenas graduated from the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) (Spain) in 2003 and completed a small animal internship there. She worked for a few years in first opinion practice and then worked as a clinician at the University Alfonso X el Sabio, Madrid. In 2013 she completed her PhD in canine hyperadrenocorticism at the UCM and moved to the UK where she pursued her Internal Medicine residency program at the University of Cambridge and she became an ECVIM diplomate. She has worked in several referral Hospitals in the UK and Spain. She currently works as a Small Animal Internal Medicine Clinician at AniCura Valencia Sur Veterinary Hospital. Carolina has a special interest in endocrinology and is a board member of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology (ESVE).

Dr. Helio Autran de Morais graduated from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and completed a PhD and a dual residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Ohio State University in the USA. He is Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the specialties of Cardiology and Internal Medicine.

Dr. de Morais is currently a Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine and the Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Oregon State University in the USA. He is also the Head of the Interventional Radiology Service. Dr. de Morais has special interest in vector-borne and emergency infectious diseases, geriatric medicine, nephrology, and cardiopulmonary medicine. He has published extensively, with more than 70 articles and 70 book chapters, including chapters in:

Dr. de Morais was the guest editor for the Veterinary Clinics of North America on "Advances in Fluids, Electrolyte, and Acid-Base Disorders" for the May 2008 and March 2017 issues. Since 2006, he is the Associate Editor for Cardiology and Internal Medicine for the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Dr. de Morais speaks frequently at the Annual Forum of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and has lectured extensively in North and South America, Europe and Africa. He has delivered the "Key-note Address" at the World Veterinary Congress in Tunis and the "State-of-the-Art Address" at the World Congress of the WSAVA in Granada.

Kris Gommeren graduated in 2002 at Ghent University, where he performed an internship and a residency in internal medicine. He become a diplomate of the European college of veterinary internal medicine in 2009, and briefly worked in a private referral practice, before moving to Liège University, where he developed the ECC-service. In 2017 he became diplomate of the European college of veterinary emergency and critical care. He obtained his PhD on the effects of systemic inflammation on the cardiovascular system. Kris is past-president of the European Society of Emergency and Critical Care (EVECCS), and founding member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care UltraSound interest group (VECCUS), as well as co-founder of the Animal Blood bank Benelux. His main fields of interest are point of care ultrasound, assessment of the cardiovascular system in critically ill patients, fluid therapy and the assessment of volume status and fluid responsiveness.

Balázs Szladovits, DVM, MRCVS, FHEA, Diplomate ACVP (Clin Path)

Balázs is a graduate of Szent István University, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Budapest, Hungary. After graduation he completed an internship in small animal internal medicine and stayed on as a clinical instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at his alma mater. He won a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Medicine & Surgery. After, he completed a residency program in veterinary clinical pathology at Kansas State University. He joined the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in January 2006 and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathology (Clin Path). He is heading the diagnostic service and residency program at the RVC and involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education. His main priorities are striving for excellence in teaching and diagnostic service in hematology, biochemistry and cytology.

Raquel is a Diplomat of the European College of Diagnostic Imaging and RCVS recognised Specialist in Diagnostic Imaging. She is also a recognised specialist in Diagnostic Imaging by the Asociación de Veterinarios Españoles Especialistas en Pequeños Animales (AVEPA).

Raquel graduated from the University Complutense of Madrid (Spain) in 2006. After working for 4 years in private practice in Spain and the UK, she undertook two internships, one in a private referral centre and the second one at the University of Cambridge whilst doing a Master’s in veterinary education and teaching.

Raquel then undertook a Residency in Diagnostic Imaging from 2012 to 2015 at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Michael Herrtage, gaining her Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2015. She has worked as a Specialist Radiologist in several referral hospitals in the UK and returned to Spain in 2017, where she had lead responsibility for the Diagnostic Imaging department in a referral hospital for 4 years.

Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at the University Complutense of Madrid, alongside working as a radiologist at Veterios referral hospital and a Teleradiology Consultant with Vet Oracle.

Raquel has written several publications in national and international journals and has participated in several imaging courses and conferences. She has experience in all diagnostic imaging modalities in small animals, with special interest in radiology, neuroimaging, thoracic and abdominal ultrasound and CT angiography.
